Why you will go out of business if you don’t start blogging today

out of business photo

Have I got your attention now? While this headline may seem sensational, I do think it’s of the utmost importance that regularly add  content to your website. Especially if your business is in industry where blogging and adding content on your website is rare. This can usually be an easy way to propel you to the first page of a Google search and could even put you in the first position, which has been proven to dramatically increase sales.

The New Website Rules

We all know that Google sets the rules for the web. While they have always stressed the importance of creating fresh and relevant content, within the last year or two, they have made this more important than any other SEO strategy SEO or Search Engine Optimization means trying to get your website on page 1 of Google. Gone are the days where you can create a static website and not touch it for a few years. If you aren’t regularly adding quality content to your website, then your website will begin to move lower in the search rankings. And moving forward, more and more businesses will rely heavily on leads and customers through their website. The websites that add content will become relevant online and in the real world, and those that don’t will go out of business. It’s not meant to scare, but to encourage you to action. Industries like manufacturing, the services industries and many other non-tech related industries can greatly improve their website page rankings, simply by adding quality content to their website. And higher rankings means more customers, clients and sales. And who doesn’t want that?

Add content to your website to stay ahead of your competition before they outpace you.

“I don’t have time for blogging” means, “I don’t care about the future of my business”

This statement may seem harsh. But, since Google makes the online rules, then in order to stay in business, it’s important to add content to your website. Everyone is busy. If you don’t start treating your website with a higher priority then eventually your website will become irrelevant online and no one will find it through a Google search. And that could eventually mean that you will go out of business.

Learning Center > Blogging

While many people think blogging is the best way to add content to their website, it’s not the only content you should be thinking about. Think of your website as a “Learning Center” where people can learn more about your company and the industry that you are in. This isn’t about making content that is a constant sales pitch, but a way to serve your customers and build yourself up as an industry leader. Since people have different learning styles, you should create content that fits the needs of your audience.

Your website should be a hub for people to learn about the best practices, new strategies, industry news, tips and updates within your industry. People will wildly consume this information and Google will generously reward you.

Here are some types of content that you should be adding to your website:

  • Case studies
  • Video tutorials
  • Infographics
  • White papers
  • Articles
  • eLearning modules
  • ebooks
  • Courses
  • Podcasts (these are audio recordings that someone can listen to at their convenience)
  • Q&A
  • Newsletters
  • Blogs

Easy ways to get started

Adding content to your website should be easy! Aren’t you always thinking about your company, the industry opportunities, how to better serve your audience? Don’t you read industry related magazines, websites and other content? Simply turn that knowledge that’s in your head into content that’s on your website. Your customers and Google will greatly reward you. Create a list as have ideas pop into your head. Then, schedule a time each week to spend 30 minutes creating content. Moving forward you will want to schedule more time, but start simple. Commit to creating one article per week. Make sure you have something like Google Analytics connected to your website so you can track your increased page views. The more content you add to your Learning Center, the more people will visit your website, which will then drive leads that you can connect with promote your products and services.
